Monitoring
Each year all KLI graduate students (except those whose projects started as of May 1 or later in that year) receive a request to complete a progress report. The primary purpose is to evaluate and monitor the level of progress of all PhD projects, and, when needed, provide recommendations on how to improve progress, and initiate action when the level of progress of a project is low for a relatively long time.
The evaluation reports are considered by the Research Committee at its October meeting. Each graduate student receives a letter from the committee commenting on the progress of the project; a copy of this letter is also sent to the supervisor.
In case the committee has concerns about a student’s progress, these are expressed clearly in the letter sent to student and supervisor, along with suggestions and recommendations by the committee to improve progress of the project. In the event of clearly unsatisfactory progress, the Chair of the committee will discuss this in the Executive Committee of the KLI, and further action is undertaken either by the Research Committee or by the Executive Committee.
